Question...
My friend has a 14-yr-old (nearly 15) boy with Aspergers Syndrome. Usually, the boy will go over to his grandparent's home after school and wait for her to pick him up after work, but her parents are elderly, and he really wants to be able to work on his trains (they also have a garden railway, and this boy idolizes Tim) after school, which he can't do over at his grandparents since they don't have a railway or suitable workshop.
She has asked if he can come over here 1-2 days a week for about 2 hours and work in the workshop on his trains, depending on when she leaves work/traffic. I understand that under the Ofstead stuff, she cannot pay us specifically for looking after him unless I want to go register myself and have people come inspect my home. My question is, would it be against the rules to have her reimburse us for him using anything in the workshop and for any food he eats? Or if we work out (on paper!) an agreement for him to "rent" the use of our workshop for x number of hours?
I realize he's a bit older than most children, so I'm not even sure if the childminders rules would apply. Yes, he has Aspergers, but he's still a nearly 15-yr-old boy.
